Research: Economist (Associate)

Locations: Remote, Nigeria

The Opportunity

The research department at IBGAfrica is seeking exceptional candidates at the associate level. Qualified candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills and a Ph.D. in Economics or related field with a solid background in data collection, analysis and presentation in Policy and Economics and advanced knowledge of statistical programming skills (R, Python, etc.). Working knowledge of machine learning techniques or big data analytics would be a plus. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively to conduct applied research on issues pertinent at the continental, country, and regional levels. The ability to communicate complex, technical concepts concisely and clearly to an audience with various backgrounds and levels of experience is essential. This position will be responsible for supporting multiple facets of IBGAfrica’s mission, including research, data analysis, and reports. It includes opportunities for growth and advancement.

Specifically, the Associate will have the following duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Write up findings and recommendations that can be shared with stakeholders; 
Conduct sophisticated empirical research in policy and economics; 
Coordinate research with various policy centers across Africa; 
Present research findings to technical and non-technical audiences internally and externally;

Requirements:

Ph.D. in Economics or related fields;  
A minimum of 4 years of experience in conducting quantitative research analysis (survey data, microdata); 
A minimum of 4 years of experience with statistical analysis and programming tools such as R or Python;  
Strong quantitative skills and analytical problem solving required;  
Working knowledge of machine learning techniques or big data analytics is a plus; 
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written); 
Ability to manage own workflow/priorities and meet deadlines; 
Independence and ability to take ownership of each project from start to finish; 
Ability to work as part of a team and perform under deadline pressure;

Note: Temporarily, due to COVID-19 this position is currently working remotely, you will be expected to physically be in one of our office locations in the future subject to federal and local state guidelines.
