The story behind our success

Institute of Better Governance in Africa (IBGAfrica) is an ambitious, independent, and nonpartisan nonprofit organization that produces policy research and advocacy with filiopietistic responsibility. We explore the most pressing policy issues and create a body of knowledge around them for public service. Then, we advocate as long as it takes for the solutions to be implemented to benefit and improve African lives.

With a team of dedicated researchers and visionaries, IBGAfrica covers a range of policy issues plaguing cultural, political, economic, environmental, and technological systems in Africa. We focus on public policy issues with the potential to spur real life impact. Among other positive changes, our research reports contribute to the passage of new laws; reform of harmful policies and practices; and accountability for leaders at regional, country, and continental levels.

Policy research across the continent requires a great deal of time and resources. Traveling across the continent to ask tough questions, listen to the voices of citizens and seek out promising solutions is an arduous task. Only well-funded think-tanks can afford to take on such insightful policy research.

As a nonprofit, IBGAfrica’s work is powered primarily through donations which fund world-class, transformative research. We are committed to publishing the reports, no matter the time or cost, and we are transparent about our financial reporting which allows donors to track how money is spent.

Founded in 2020, IBGAfrica believes that impact-driven policy research is critical to catalyzing equitable governance and improving lives in Africa. Our staff remains dedicated to carrying forward the important work of creating knowledge, informing the public about complex issues, and using the power of policy research to spur reform.
